Lens finder - quickly find the lenses that best fit your personal needs

This tool will help you come up with a short list of lenses that can be a starting point in making a decision which product to buy. Once you're down to a few lenses, you should read some reviews and check sample photos (both reviews and photos are available on pixel-peeper).

Each parameter can be either set to a specific min/max value (to filter out all non-matching lenses), or you can simply say how important the parameter is. The resulting list will include a score for each lens based on your choices. Note that most parameters have a long description that you can click (red links) if you're not sure about their meaning.

In case of zooms, min. and max. focal length covered specify the minimum required range that must be covered by a lens, and in case of primes these parameters give the boundaries for the search. You can leave one or both of these values empty.

A bright lens (one whose max. aperture is large) allows taking photos in low-light situations as well as having a very narrow depth of field (DOF) meaning that for example any distracting background can be nicely blurred. Contrary to somewhat popular opinion, this is a very important parameter and it can't be compensated by image stabilization or high ISO. Many interesting photos simply cannot be taken without ability to use a narrow DOF.

This parameter can be important if you often use filters and don't want to have to purchase many different sizes. You can leave this field empty if you want to search for all filter sizes.

Closest focusing distance

If you want to take macro photos, you will want this parameter to be as low as possible. Keep in mind that even though long focal lengths will have higher values, they may give larger magnifications.

Number of lens elements

The higher the number of elements, the more likely the lens will be exposed to flare.
